What is a ghostwriter…and why do I need one?

What are ghostwriters?

  • Ghostwriting saves you time and effort, allowing you to focus on other priorities in your business.
  • You get an objective look at your writing. Ghostwriters not only write for you, but they can point out gaps in your current content strategy.
  • You can churn out content quicker; thus, you can build brand awareness and authenticity faster.

How to find a ghostwriter?

One of the biggest challenges here is finding the right ghostwriter to fit your needs. The market is flooded with people claiming to be writers. Among so many options, it’s essential to use the right strategy for finding the best ghostwriter.

Ask around for referrals.

Asking around for referrals will not just help you find the best writer for your business; it will also save your time and energy in finding a writer yourself (you’re trying to save yourself work here, after all). So, before you start looking for ghostwriters online, it’s good to ask your network of friends, family, and fellow industry-people whether they know any skilled writers.

Use LinkedIn

If you can’t find a good writer from the referrals, try LinkedIn and job portals. Depending on whether you want to hire a full-time or a freelance ghostwriter for your blog, you can start your search on LinkedIn. After you find profiles that you think work best for the job, you can send a direct message explaining your requirements.

Use freelance marketplaces

Another effective way of finding the best ghostwriter for a blog is via freelance marketplaces. If you want to hire a full-time, in-house writer for your blog, then you should probably look elsewhere. Freelance marketplaces are where businesses can find and hire individual contractors to do some work remotely. Some popular freelance websites are Upwork, Fiverr, and Freelancer.

Approach a ghostwriting/content marketing agency

If you don’t want to hire an individual writer directly, it’s good to hire a content marketing or ghostwriting agency. The agency will have a team of experienced and well-trained writers. You can use Google to find a ghostwriting agency near you.

Final Thoughts

Full disclosure: I have ghostwritten articles for many business owners, thought-leaders, and entrepreneurs, so I know a bit about the topic. As with all things, there are good sides and bad sides to the industry. How about you?
Are you a ghostwriter? Or have you used one before? Is ghostwriting ethical (a question that opens a whole new bag of worms)? Leave your thoughts in the comments below.
